The Chen Research Group focuses on advancing acoustics and acoustically enabled technologies for biomedical research, sensing, and manipulation. We study how acoustic waves interact with materials, interfaces, and living systems, and use these principles to develop innovative tools for precision measurement, biophysical characterization, droplet and particle manipulation, and high-throughput biological analysis. Our work spans fundamental acoustic-wave phenomena to integrated instrumentation, including acoustofluidic platforms, acoustic tweezers, acoustic sensing systems, and whole-organism phenotyping devices. Through interdisciplinary collaborations, we aim to create transformative acoustic technologies that support personalized medicine, drug discovery, organoid and tissue engineering, and mechanobiology.
